There was no treatment. We were sequestered in beautiful grounds; the only positive. With the exception of one group session, the rest were run by patients. Once a week you saw a psychiatrist, and it was a different one each week; no consistency. My addiction(s) were never discussed with me by a professional; the patients had to figure this out on their own. The accommodations were atrocious for the money we paid; dirty and old. A year later I am still sober and heaven only knows how I got there except on my own. Perhaps it was the $60,000 up front money that was a factor.

TRAUMATIZING. This is the last place one should ever go if they are in a vulnerable place. I came to the Meadows in 2010 1 week after I had repressed memories of sexual abuse and ritual abuse come up. I was severely dissociated and very depressed. One would think that being in this position seeking help that they would receive gentle and kind treatment and true healing for 40k. A few points to make: My diagnosis at the Meadows was wrong. While they said Dysthymia(low grade depression) and Anxiety, I later found out was major depressive disorder and a form of DID and OCD all co occurring. The psychiatrist on staff was young and inexperienced. They put abuse survivors in w PERPETRATORS (Sex abusers who r also addicts) and in my case I was very vulnerable and ended up in a close relationship w an extremely DANGEROUS person (will surely take some responsibility for that action and that choice which I learned a hard lesson from) But that person should NOT have been in the same facility as me. EVER. When they tried to "warn me" they did it by shaming me and making me wear a sign that said "females only" which was humiliating for a severely depressed abuse survivor and it actually pushed me more toward this person and isolated me from my peers and a lot of the staff. They didn't make the guy wear a Males Only sign. I ended up almost being killed by this sociopath later on and they couldn't have cared less in the end. No follow up was ever made. Most of the staff was horrible esp my therapist who seemed to have a personal problem w me and told me I had an eating disorder bc I was skinny(from depression, not anorexia or other) The whole attitude of this place is "Tough LoVe", further shaming, protecting their staff over clients and treating people as if they are extremely "sick" unless they completely adhere to the models and ideologies that this place teaches. It's a very judge mental environment and not loving or mindful at all. A place that treats 50-60 people at a time is usually a set up for disaster bc it's too many and like others are saying here there is no one on one therapy. Best of luck to anyone reading this and searching for a treatment center as recovery is not easy for the patient nor the family to begin with, and everyone deserves to get the right help when they are seeking healing.

All masters level clinicians and above, full time MD, psychiatrists, focus is on treating the whole person. Able to treat co occurring disorders not just say they do. Beautiful atmosphere and supportive community. Many different testaments available, truly individualized. I guess the rooms could be more posh if that's what is most important for you. I didn't always like the food but it was healthy. This really is the best place for treatment. I've tried others and they never offered enough to help my entire person recover. I see many things written here that are just not true. It's a great place to save your life if you're willing. This experience changed my entire life experience and I couldn't be more grateful.

The councilors were amazing. The program was top notch. They did not just try to cram 12 steps down your throat. They went far beyond that trying to get to the root of the issues and break me from my cycle. The 12 steps were introduced too, but I had been to 2 rehabs before that this is all they focused on and it was ineffective. Expensive

Survivors workshop was amazing. My primary counselor ended up getting fired because she was inept. Very expensive but was the best experience of my life. I made great connections with my peers and learned a lot about myself.

The work done at The Meadows is as profound as that done by the founding members of A.A. Cost can be a barrier to some who can benefit. The Meadows saved my life, I was 5 years sober and they helped me with core family issues that would have been a threat to that sobriety. More is sometimes required through our sober journey if we are to continue maintaining emotional sobriety.

They offer a variety of treatment options. It's very expensive. I felt like this was a great program with people that really cared. I would highly recommend The Meadows. The only downfall was the financial expense required to enter treatment.

Ability to deal w individuals struggling w one or multiple serious & life threatening addictions. Program is very thorough but only works if individual seeking treatment truly wants to be helped. Needs to ensure patient is a aware of importance of having an aftercare program lined-up immediately upon being discharged from facility. The Meadows was the only rehab facility that worked for my brother
