Treatment Center Philosophy

The Liberty Ranch believes in providing well rounded treatment that addresses the complex mental health conditions that go along with addiction while simultaneously helping clients build a strong foundation in a 12-step program. The emphasis at the Ranch is placed on helping the individual identify and change the behavior patterns that are causing them to relapse while developing healthier and adaptive behaviors conducive to sobriety. Through the help of experienced peer support specialists and licensed clinicians, residents gain a working knowledge of their triggers and have a set of tools that help them successfully live their life sober and to good purpose. Set in the hills of rural Kentucky, in the community of Kings Mountain, the Liberty Ranch offers short- and long-term structured transitional living for adults struggling with substance abuse disorders. The facility is a peer-run, community-based center, where staff members are in also in active recovery. Next to the structured transitional living facility is the Liberty Ranch Rehabilitation Center, where residents go to receive clinically based services such as substance abuse treatment classes, psychotherapy, and family counseling. These services are also available to people in the community who are not residential

Larry Luttrell
Founder

Originally from Casey County, Larry began his training in structured transitional living management in Los Angeles in 1990 with Jerry Polcaro, PhD at New Life House and then later with Robert Mellan, PhD at Liberty House. Larry has gained competencies in running nonclinical processing and feedback groups as well as implementing the Gorski Method of Relapse Prevention within the structure of his transitional livings, resulting in remarkably lower relapse rates. Known for his intuition, extraordinary skills in breaking behavior apart, and over 28 years of experience working with addicted populations and their families, Larry has carved out an unbeatable reputation in the recovery community. Since opening multiple transitional livings, a detox program, as well as an outpatient program, Larry has continued to work alongside many professionals in the field including James Woods, PhD of Promises Treatment Center and Bernard McInerny, PhD. and Romana Zvereva, M.D. of Betty Ford Treatment Center. Considered an expert in the field, Larry has paved the way for many other professionals to utilize structured transitional living programs as effective long term treatment options for drug addicts and alcoholics. His revolutionary methods for implementing practical application of the 12 steps within the structure are innovative and have been replicated across the country.

Liberty Ranch is a facility that is very intensive on not only sobriety but on working on character defects and preparing you for the outside world. There you learn how to hold yourself and others accountable, to be honest with yourself and others, and to take initiative when the times present themselves. Life at the Liberty Ranch is a real "crash course" on life.

The Liberty Ranch has given back to me the relationships that I had lost through my addiction. Today I have a conscious again and today I can hold others and myself accountable. The growth that originates from coming to the Ranch is dumbfounding. I would not take back my time here for anything in the world, the beautiful facility and methods to sobriety taught here are unique and life-changing.

It was truly by the grace of God that I found The Liberty Ranch for my daughter and I thank Him everyday. The Liberty Ranch honestly saved my daughter's life. I strongly urge anyone who has a family member struggling with an addiction to seek the help of this wonderful facility. You will have the comfort of knowing your loved one is surrounded by an amazing staff working diligently to save their life. They make them WORK the 12 steps and hold them accountable for their actions. This structure is what an addict needs in order to overcome their addiction and remain sober. Not only are the staff wonderful with the residents.....they are just as amazing with family members. We are taught to see how enabling our loved ones is not helping them at all.....that we have to surrender and let go and turn our loved one over to the staff and let them work their magic. I can promise you, you will forever be grateful if you/your loved one becomes a part of The Liberty Ranch family!!!! And that is exactly what it is.....a loving family that I feel so blessed to be a part of!!

This program was the worst thing ever! They called you stupid and all kinds of names they put people in a circle and all talk bad to them. I still pray for the people that’s still there. I only know very few people who have went through the program and is still actually sober. I’m sober now and went to a different treatment but I would never send anyone to this place.

Very Good
Recovery facilities should be educated on all treatment modalities and options for families, this one is not. When our child threatened to leave they never mentioned Caseys Law, Vivitrol or any other possible options for us. Our family found the staff to be demeaning and rude to not only the patients but to the families as well. Not all addicts need to be treated as scolded children but I guess they would say that makes me an enabler. Im sure its a great facility for some but nothing good came out of the huge price tag!! Facility is beautiful and clean. The staff and structure of the program, lack of willingness to customize treatment for the individual

The residential side of the program is geared toward an individual doing what is necessary to stay clean and sober. That means changing his or her behavior, and following direction. We are usually met with "why do I have to do that" or "I don't want to do that" etc. Getting sober is not something parents or staff can do for an individual...instead the willingness to change has to come from the individual. The Clinical Staff uses many different modalities to help residents, but even then, the bottom line is that the "willingness to change" must come from the individual, and struggling to make the changes is part of the process. Mindfulness is key to helping the residents overcome their problems. When they are made aware of what part of themselves stands in their own way, they get a handle on the solution to it. Unfortunately denial is a problem at every turn, and staff helps residents with this by sharing their own stories and experiences with the residents which nurtures "Hope."

The Liberty Ranch has been a Godsend for our son, who is 27 years old and has been a resident at the Ranch for 7 months. Both an alcoholic and heroin addict, our son had previously attended accredited inpatient and outpatient rehab centers. Every time he was released after a mere few weeks of therapy, only to return to his addictions. Thanks to The Liberty Ranch, our son is now sober and has finally committed to a recovery method that’s working – working to heal both the addict as well as his parents. Our son has learned to face the reality of his addiction, acknowledge his mistakes, account for his behavior, take responsibility for his actions, work the 12 steps of AA, and focus on a life free from addiction. A sustained sober life is a product of altered associations. The Ranch encourages avoiding the triggers of the past, in part by cultivating new friendships with people who share the common goal of sobriety. As parents, the Ranch made us aware of our own faults and weaknesses: primarily enabling. The Ranch encouraged us to join Al-Anon and we now regularly attend Al-Anon meetings as well as the Ranch’s weekly Multi Family Group sessions. As our son continues to find his way to recovery and a better life through sober living, we continue to stay out of his way.

I am a product of the Liberty House/Ranch and they truly helped me turn my life around. I was a daily user of methamphetamine's for 4 hard years, and have not touched it in over 20 years. It was not an easy road but with their help I have went from a liability to an asset. I am truly grateful for their help, so grateful I reached out when my 16 year old son began to spiral from addiction. Now he is getting the tools he needs to live with his addiction.

I first enterd the liberty house three years ago where I was confronted about who I am and what made me tick as a person, the only rehab that I have ever been to that focused on me as a person. I learned to deal with life there and was showed how to operate and live sober on a daily basis. Time, effort, and a great level of care was spent on me specifically where as any other rehab I was just another number. I am grateful for the ranch still to this day.

I am fortunate to have a story that involves the Liberty Ranch for Women and Alcoholics Anonymous. I lived a self-imposed miserable life before I got sober. I came to the realization that six other residential treatment centers were not enough so arriving at the seventh, The Liberty Ranch, I must try something different to get different results. Nine miserable years of drinking and using drugs really did a number on me. It took me a long time to get in the shape I was in and it was going to take a while to work out the kinks. The Liberty Ranch’s approach was the catalyst to maintaining long term sobriety. At the Ranch and in AA I’ve learned more about myself as the problem, about what behaviors I exhibit that will kill me, the lessons in surrender and faith necessary to continue maintaining sobriety and happiness. If all I needed was detox to be happy and productive I would have got sober six rehabs ago. Working on myself is an ongoing job, I will never have all the answers, the further along in sobriety I get I see that more and more. Life is baffling to an alcoholic like me. The Ranch taught me what accountability and responsibility mean and how the twelve steps are applicable in every part of my life. I was introduced to my disease and the implications of my behaviors. The residents and staff at the Ranch faced my disease head to head. They never gave up on me. July 19, 2010 was my last drink and drug. My foundation in recovery was cemented at The Ranch- building the life I have today is the fun part!

My experience with the Liberty Ranch was different from the rest. They encourage you to drop private insurance and pick up Medicaid. Stating that private insurance will not allow you to graduate the program, but Medicaid will. If this place really cared about the residents and not money seems to me they would tell you to file a claim with your private insurance and see what they will cover before you are kicked out due to lack of funds. This facility is not a dual diagnostic rehab. If you suffer from a mental disease this is not addressed at all. These same people were released due to not having Medicaid. I do not understand how this goes unreported, it’s my understanding in KY that everyone is a mandated reporter for the state. If someone threatens violence everyone is obligated to report it. If someone needs help at a dual diagnostic facility, it would only seem reasonable for the staff to realize they are not equipped to handle that person’s recovery and recommend a better facility. This place is a money racket and not a rehab facility. They are not family friendly like it states. I never had a family therapy session or group therapy other than IOP. Group therapy did exist at the house, however due to the fact I had private insurance and not Medicaid I was not allowed to participate. This place is very cult like, everyone that graduates ends up working there. Just a weird environment all together.

Official Facility Response
First of all I want to state that my name is Brandy Corder and I am the Clinical Program Director at The Liberty Ranch Rehabilitation Center and I am rebutting the false statements made by “A”, whomever this individual may be, as they are hiding behind a semblance of anonymity by not disclosing who they truly are and this is deceitful. At the Liberty Ranch we often encounter parents who continue enabling behavior and refuse to take part in the family portion of services we offer and often become resentful when we do not change our structure to suit them resulting in the resident being discharged. The parent’s behavior then becomes a barrier to the resident’s ability to succeed. As far as a resident not being allowed to participate in a group due to payor source, this is completely false. All services provided are tailored to each individual client’s needs as assessed upon entry and as are covered by insurance and/or private pay. No employee of any of our facilities have ever encouraged any resident or client to drop any insurance to pick up state funded insurance as this would be fraudulent and we are a reputable and ethical service provider. The accusation that residents have been released due to not having Medicaid is also blatant LIE as we accept all forms of insurance and all are verified before entry to any of our facilities. Secondly, It is true that everyone in the state of Kentucky, including all residents are all mandated reporters of any violence, intent to harm self or others. This being stated, each and every time that a reporting issue has occurred it has been reported and individuals have received inpatient treatment as per state law. Our facility is a dual diagnosis facility and works with many individuals who suffer from co-occurring disorders. We work with many psychiatrists, psychologists and other mental health service providers as well as in-house service providers. If an issue is too severe to be treated by our staff a referral is ALWAYS made. A higher level of care has been sought and in instances where individuals were manipulating and not an actual threat to self or others they were released by said higher level of care with discharge papers stating that residents are not at risk before we allowed them back into our facilities. It is simply an untrue statement that we are not equipped to handle dual diagnosis as we have proven time and time again that client care is our top priority (such as an 82% success rate among graduates) to help individuals get their lives back on track and learn how to live sober and productive lives and many go on to pursue careers here at our facilities as successful individuals (not at all like a cult, but as supporters of change). We always promote from within to maintain continuity in our processes as this is NOT UNLIKE any sober living home in the country! As far as being family friendly, we absolutely are! We have weekly multi-family counseling groups from 9-10 on Saturdays, then family group meeting from 10:30-12:00 followed up with a family potluck and visits for residents with family members. Residents’ families also have a weekly Facebook Al-Anon meeting from our facility that they have the opportunity to participate in to receive support. I am uncertain how much more The Liberty Ranch could do to be more family friendly.

LIBERTY Ranch in Kings Mountain points residents in ONE direction...ONE way of living...CLEAN AND SOBER. Our son was able to commit to recovery only after he graduated from LIBERTY RANCH. He lives a new life with other graduates with which our son has made connections in able to help keep him accountable. This community is strong with AA and in following the 12 steps. This place has LOTS of inspiring reviews, parent SUPPORTS, STAFF guidance, and RECOVERING ADDICTS. Definitely a strength that the staff are recovering addicts themselves...helps them know EXACTLY the mind of the addict. Staff can NOT be manipulated. LIBERTY RANCH is located way beyond any civilization that could jeopardize my son's sobriety. I loved how residents live around meetings and group work. Fantastic consequences, record keeping, genuine concerns for residents, and NO fear in calling out someone for any type of wrong doing. I wanted more physical activities for my son at first. But then I realized LIBERTY RANCH was working more with correcting my son's MIND. I would have liked to see more yoga in the building with the groups, but that may still occur in their future. I know LIBERTY RANCH is constantly improving and changing for the better. I see it.

The Liberty Ranch is by far the best facility I have ever been too. The staff there never gives up on the residents. When I got to the ranch my life was a disaster I had legal trouble, financial trouble, and I was lost and broken. I probably would not have made it much longer, I had no idea how to live. They taught me how to be honest, hard working, accountable, hold myself to a higher standard, they introduced me to the AA program and the structure of the facility follows the principles of the AA program. So I learned to work and live the program on a daily basis. They showed me that you will get out what you put in, so I put my all in and it worked for me. I am so grateful that my family found this place for me and that I stayed, because the ranch has shown me a new way of living and I am proud to be part of this program. I am thankful for all this place has done for me, its one of a kind and a true blessing in my life. And I have made some of the best friends I have ever had in this program and a whole support system ! The strengths of the facility are they do everything in their power to help someone get and stay sober they never give up on residents and go above and beyond for residents and are always available to the residents.

I came to the Liberty to after a ten year period of using hard drugs and alcohol. I had been to 7 or 8 other treatment facilities prior to this but they were nothing like the experience that I have had here at the Liberty Ranch. I had tried everything that I knew of and nothing was working for me. I quickly realized that this place was different and I was not going to be able to fly under the radar here. The guys here were different than other places, they were truly wanting to be sober and they also had something that I wanted they were actually happy in sobriety. I needed the structure and accountability that this place provides in order to begin my road to recovery. Most importantly the ranch taught me how to live life on life's terms and do all the things that I never thought I could do without drugs and alcohol. I have never been sober more than 30 days prior to the ranch and now I am 5 months sober and feel positive about what my future holds. Change is mandatory here..its that simple.

I have been around to see so many changed lives because of the Liberty Ranch and the hard work of the staff. The staff here are recovering addicts so they can relate to the residents in the facility. I have had family and friends graduate from the program here. The staff take the time to peel back the layers and get down to the core causes of why they use. It's amazing to watch the residents and families who came in torn apart from this disease follow direction of the staff and the healing process takes hold. Families are united back together in a healthy way when they follow the direction given.

When I came into the Liberty Ranch for Women 8 years ago, I was broken, hopeless and at deaths door. I was full of fear that my life was as good as it was going to ever be. It wasn't easy but I knew something had to change. I had to do things that I was unwilling to do before. One day at a time and on my HP time, things started to change for me. I trusted that the managers and residents that was here longer than I, knew what was best for me. I was incapable of making healthy decisions for myself. Through house groups and one on one's I learned about myself and my defects that hindered my life for years. I have worked at the facility for 7 years now and it continues to be apart of my daily life and support system. I enjoy working with other women and family members and passing on what was given to me.

And after 2 weeks I committed to graduate. It was the best decision I ever made. I have 10 months sober today thanks to the Liberty Ranch I personally have learned so much about myself! I have learned how to have fun in sobriety, for example going to the Red River Gorge and jumping off rocks, swimming in our pool, bonfires at the fire pit, going to the movies, and most importantly learning the true meaning of happiness. I have friends today, ones who actually care for me and want to see me succeed. The twelve steps have been incorporated in my every day life, which teaches me the proper way to cope with life. I came to the ranch at eighteen so if I can do it any one can!

I never believed my life could have so much meaning, and impact on others. Today I have fifty six days sober, I thought because I am 40 yrs. old that it would be impossible for me to find recovery. Yet through the twelve steps I have found a higher power that has yet to fail me. I have fun with the other girls in the house & today they are my family. My financial situation is not the prettiest, but the staff and owner have found a way for me to continue my treatment. I do believe that my higher power which I choose to call God, has put the Ranch in my life. That everything that I thought was impossible is now at arms reach. My life is now something to be proud of, and this is just the beginning!

There are no words to describe how grateful I will forever be for The Liberty Ranch. This place saved my life. I entered the ranch in 2012 and i was a shell of a person, trying to get sober for all of the wrong reasons. The longer I stayed the more involved I became in my own life and my own recovery. I have a relationship with my family now. I have friendships that are real! I am employable. My bills are paid. All of these things were impossible for me to do before i entered the ranch. I know my worth and am now 24 years old with 5 years of sobriety. I had been to other facilities before and it did not work. Not because i wasn't ready to get sober, I wasn't ready to get sober before i entered the ranch either but because they dug deep and helped me discover the root of my problems and taught me how to apply solution to them. The staff members had all been where i had been and had real life solution. Thank you Liberty Ranch for my life back.

I recently graduated the Liberty Ranch and it saved my life. I struggled with drug addiction for most of my life. I even tried to join the military and that didn't work but what did work was the amazing staff and structure of the ranch. Lucky for me my family found an affordable place and put me on a plane to Kentucky. At first I thought I wouldn't fit in because I was from New Jersey but the complete opposite happened I was welcomed with open arms and people that related with me and my own issues. The Ranch saved my life and I appreciate all that they do. I owe my life to this place.

I am so grateful the ranch taught me to have fun in sobriety. We go on group activities every Friday!! I never had friends until coming here and the Ranch taught me how to have a friend and to be a friend. Now I am working as the resident manager and get to pass on what was so freely given to me.

I came to the Liberty Ranch, from California, in May 2016. I knew very little about drug and alcohol treatment, but I knew that I was an addict and that I needed help. My parents found out about LR from a friend, who’s son suffered from addiction and is a graduate of the program from a few years prior. I owe everything in my life today to the help and support that I have found at LR. They introduced me to alcholiocs anonymous, the 12 steps and nudged me along the whole way. They gave me living examples of what the 12 steps can do if you just stick with them. I am now coming up on two years of sobriety and owe that all to the love and support that I found at the LR.

The Liberty Ranch saved my life and taught me how to be a productive member of society. They never gave up on me they taught me how to work hard, be honest, hold myself to a higher standard, be accountable and responsible. It is by far the best rehab I have ever been too they introduced me to the AA program and everything they do in the House follows the AA program and it is a new way of life ! One that I am proud to be a part of today

I have been to 7 other treatment centers, a dozen IOPs, PHPs, and hospitalizations. You name it, I have tried it. Over the course of years, none of these places did much of anything for me. While I admit that I did not want these other treatment centers to work, I came into the Ranch with the same attitude. My thought process was; I will come here for 30 days, get my parents off my back and in no time I would be back at "the bottle" again. The Ranch had a different plan for me. You could write a book on The Ranch's approach to addiction and alcoholism. Long story short, through the years of drinking and drugging my mind was tainted. I was sick. I was a liar, a cheater, master manipulator, and as selfish as someone could be. Achieving long term sobriety is much more than removing drugs and alcohol from one's life. Incorporating the 12 steps and many years of experience, The Liberty Ranch showed me how to change. I will be forever grateful for The Liberty Ranch and everything they have given me. Hands down, the best place on earth for those afflicted with drugs and alcohol.

Substitute the word "badgering" for "nurturing" wherever it occurs in AA literature and you'll have a pretty good idea of Liberty Ranch's approach.

Liberty Ranch uses what I call the Wax On Wax Off technique. The residents are given the opurtunity to learn structure and accountability to others. While doing this they are mentored by staff of highest quality. It is my belief that they will to the best of their ability provied an opurtunity for you or your loved one to over come addiction. If you want a vacation go somewhere else if you want to get sobor go to Liberty Ranch

Fantastic place, and somewhat affordable, no insurance accepted..which i find suspicious. This is a long term treatment center, and it only works as that. If you are looking for something short term and can absolutely not do long-term, find someplace else. If you are willing to do whatever it takes, or however long it takes, then you have found the right place. The food is absolutely terrible, zero nutrition, cafeteria food really. It\'s in the middle of nowhere, the meetings in the area are not very good. But the place/program are truly something special. You/loved one will learn how to be accountable and have integrity as well as how to be self supporting. It is a good slow-integration back into society. Only thing is, the society you be integrating to there, kinda stinks. Country and slow paced life, not many career opportunities, but if you are young and can do that life for a little while you get on your feet its great. The pros absolutely outweigh the cons. This place works, bottom line. BUT you have to stay the year. If you do 30-90 days it won\'t be worth it, there are much better 30-90 day options out there.

The facility always honors its arrangements it makes regarding finances, and in some cases for up to a year. If you are quoted a negotiated price and don't take advantage of it that's not the facilities fault. We quote many people, and since most are just shopping around and are making a decision based on price rather than the program offered, they don't come in. Months later we are called back by the same people who want the same quote, and we can't give it to them due to changes in our expenses etc.

Nice clean facility. The clients go in broken and humiliated and they just keep beating them down. The staff will tell you one thing one day and something different the next. They are never on the same page. I think this place is all about money. I know other parents who agree.

Official Facility Response
The Liberty Ranch teaches residents to look at their behavior honestly, and without rationalization, ambiguity, or denial. This is a process, and unfortunately denial sets in and the addict/alcoholic has 1000 rationalizations or excuses for bad behavior, so do the families. If we didn't address those rationalizations the resident would never have a reason to change his behavior, and we'd do him/her a disservice. We operate on the premise that persons walking in the door are ready to change and want too. This process is why we have such a high success rate. Residents learn to look at undesirable behavior and replace it with more positive actions or behavior all in the context of a 12-step program. Most family members don't go to Al-anon and therefore don't understand what's going on even when its explained by staff.

I liked the accountability, family restructuring, cost effective, long term care no clinical support, no medical support, This treatment center is useful for clients that has no co-occurring disorders, that have major behavioral disorders, and that have has several episodes of care in a licensed treatment centers.

I have mixed feelings on this place! Don\'t get me wrong it did save my life, but a lot of false advertisement on the website. It\'s not your typical \"ranch\". Their are no horses. The meals are the same every single week. If you do not graduate this program which usuall takes 12-14 months they will not have anything to do with you. They take away your support group and you are not allowed to communicate with the residents that helped you stay sober. i am not sure why the offer short term treatment. But unless you are wanting to stay and graduate steer away from this facility.

The rules and structure surrounding residents who leave before completion are set up the way they are because of long standing experience. Residents leaving early usually have bad attitudes and since other family members wouldn't want their sons/daughters talking with persons with bad attitudes and feel that those people should stay away is why we don't want residents talking to those that leave early. We offer 30-90 day programs as well as 6 months and longer. Residents are encouraged to stay longer because usually in 30-90 days most are still struggling and not sure they even want a sober life. It takes time to sort these issues out. Our graduate program is highly effective and is what our statistics are based on. Our structure is seasoned and time tested over 29 years.

I have remained sober ever since I left. I use what I learned there to this day to have a better life. Aftercare- specific after-care instruction involving continued participation in the program as a graduate on a voluntary basis. I know people who have been in various programs all around the country, and there is no program that dedicates as much to each individual resident as the the Liberty Ranch does. I have been clean and sober for over 7 years because of what I learned during my time there. I still go there a few times a month to participate in groups, and I mentor/sponsor people that are currently in treatment there.

This is unlike any place I have ever been to! The methods are at first hard to get used to, but the staff is always there to help you through that process. I realized shortly after being there that this was a special place. The results are real! If you are serious about getting sober, this is the place for you! I recommend it to anyone I come across who is struggling with addiction or alcoholism. I am now sober 6.5 years at 26 years old! It all started here, and I will be forever grateful!

You cannot put a price tag on a better life and contentment. I have a life today that was beyond a dream for me before I came into treatment. I would recommend anyone struggling to come and give yourself the chance to be free from the shackles of addiction. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about or use the tools I learned at the Liberty Ranch. I am eternally in debt, and grateful for the life I have today and it is a direct result of the time and patience the residents and staff at the Liberty Ranch were willing to give to me. Many people get sober in many ways, but I am truly blessed that I made the decision to come here and change my life. I had spent the better part of the past 20 years in and out of AA, NA, CR, detox facilities and jail. I was addicted to cocaine and opiates and was using them both intravenously. I lost custody of my child, lost faith and trust from family and friends because of all the dishonest and selfish ways I hurt and stole from them. I literally wanted to die but was too afraid to end my own life. My life defined in two words was chaos and misery. The Liberty Ranch taught me how to live life again; how to level my pride, how to walk through fear, the importance of honesty, how to be self sufficient, and gave me the gift of a conscience and caring about others. And it's because of those things I stay sober today. The time and patience that staff is willing to give in dissecting the disease of addiction and how it manifests itself in our lives is unparalleled. As a graduate of the program I now have almost 2 years of sobriety, I get to see my daughter and spend as much time as I want with her and be the father she deserves. I've worked the 12 steps and have a sponsor, and I currently have 6 sponsees whom I am guiding through the 12 steps as well. I live in my own place, I pay my own bills, and I am generally happy and content, but the big difference now is that when I'm not, and life throws curveballs at me, I know how to handle and how to deal with life on life's terms. Anyone who wants a better life than what they have, I would encourage you to take that first step and ask for help it is achievable. For me, I don't think I could've gotten sober anywhere else.

I just celebrated 4 years of sobriety this may because of this program and the staff. If you are ready for a new life and are willing to go to any lengths, this is the program for you.

When I called the lady that was working, she talked to me for hours and checked on me the days I was detoxing before I came in. They weren't about the money on the phone. They were out of concern and reminding me I'm not alone in this. The care in her voice was my decision to come to the liberty ranch for women. It helped me get sober and stay sober. It's been over 3 years. I'm forever grateful for the liberty ranch! If it has helped me and the other women and men that are sober from the liberty ranch I know it works. I still go back and visit the residents and help the women. It works and I recommend who ever wants help to come to the liberty ranch. When I walked into the Liberty Ranch for women. I was scared, broken down. I didn't know how to live. Before I got sober I'd wake up and my number one priority was to buy drugs, or steal to buy what I needed. I had no friends, no one wanted to be around me. I even hated myself. And when I came to the ranch, they taught me how to love myself, become an independent woman. Care for others, help the new comers. Shoot I didn't know how to be responsible with anything. And I learned that. I now have so many friends thru that place. I am now responsible where I actually have a job and pay my bills. I have a roof over my head and I'm not homeless. While I was there I committed to graduate there program. My family could see me on the weekends. I was allowed to go visit my family on passes. While In the house we would have a night where we had activity which was always fun to get out go bowling or anything that's fun. This place changed my life and I'm actually happy. I don't need a drink or drug to enjoy life. The liberty ranch helped me grow into a young responsible sober woman. I'm forever grateful for this!

Hardcore Sobriety! Ego deflation is where it's at! They teach you the truth about our disease, drugs & alcohol aren't the problem, we are! I learned so so so much, about basic things I thought I knew, such as selfish, dishonest, pride, ego etc., and it opened my eyes to who I really was, and allowed me to see as human beings we all have defects, some of which I listed above, but The Ranch taught me to identify these defects, accept responsibility for them, and take action to change them. Intensive community groups every week, sometimes daily. Very high success rate for those who graduate this program (generally 12+ months). They gradually adapt u back into society and help you to the fullest extent in aftercare. 12 step Alcoholics Anonymous, but for alcoholics and addicts. I myself spent 16 months there, graduated, moved out, continued to sponsor girls/ stay involved w house, but after almost 2 yrs of sobriety I relapsed, due to my own behavior, well lack of. Too much emphasis on graduating, the facility is offered for anywhere from 30, 60, 90 days, 6 months, or until graduating, but as I mentioned above, graduation takes a minimum of 12 months typically. For those who are only committed for short term stays I feel their treatment is often not focused on as it should be. They constantly group or try to talk residents into "committing to graduate" . I also feel certain staff members share too much of their personal life, and do not handle or treat women w enough respect, thus very easily creating resentments that girls in house are scared to bring to attention. Also, too much involvement in graduates personal life, after they have left house and graduated.

This is a very unconventional facility whereas the staff have all gone thru the program and now are being peer mentors. It is a 12 step program where you have more privileges given once you pass each step. They make the person write "essays" daily on what they learned in their daily AA/NA meeting. Since the person has not followed rules they also write essays if they break a rule in the household. Each of the 12 steps take about a month to get through. After you get thru step 8 you are allowed to get a job, a phone, and a vehicle to get to work (which is required).

We are sorry for the experience you had while with us. A major reason recovering people relapse is due to the importance they place on material values. At the Liberty Ranch, for your money, you are getting support for your continued sobriety only. One day at a time. Each resident tailors their own experience with us based on how they carry themselves in seeking a life in sobriety.

We are sorry for your experience. We do not monitor or record any of the resident’s phone calls. However, the telephones are placed in common areas where others may be able to hear conversations. This, by design, ensures that residents do not abuse their phone privileges and that their conversations are conducive to their sobriety and the wellbeing of all residents in the facility. This is also why we do not allow residents to have cell phones during the first couple months here. As for free time, it is important that those new to sobriety have a set schedule and keep themselves busy. Idol time is dangerous for a recovering addict as it allows irrational thinking the airtime that it does not need. The residents have free time every day - just not all day because it would be counterproductive to their recovery.

It was hard to adapt to at first but in the end it was well worth the stay. I learned to handle daily duties as a simple task, adapt to change well- due to the weekly altering of schedules/duties, and learned to deal with my own demons and problems as I completed the steps and worked with around 20 to 30 other addicts dealing with the same issues under one roof.

For seven years I tried to get sober doing it my way. I attended at least 10 intensive outpatient programs as well as three other residential facilities. Each time I failed and went back to alcohol and drugs only to end up worse than before. The Liberty Ranch was unlike anything I had experienced before in the most positive way. I learned how to actually live and apply what I was learning to my every day life. I was given the opportunity to learn about myself and who I was, to break down the walls of denial and dishonesty I was so engulfed in. I was given the support I needed to work through difficult and painful experiences of my past, both by staff as well as the other residents in the program. I found everything I was looking for in drugs and alcohol in sobriety: a sense of belonging, friends, acceptance, freedom, etc....and that would not have been possible without The Liberty Ranch. Today I have almost five and a half years clean and sober from all mind and mood altering substances and it all began the day I walked in the doors of The Ranch.
