Very Good
Paradigm Malibu was easily one of the worst decisions i’ve made in my life. i went in the fall of 2015. At the time, i was struggling with intense suicidal ideation, non-suicidal self injury, and an eating disorder. i stayed about 43 days. i thought i was cured. 2 months after coming home, i attempted suicide. we decided to send me back to paradigm, only to have the same result. Paradigm doesn’t teach you how to live in real life when you have mental health issues. the coddle you and send you back home with no warning. being at Paradigm, you’re pretty much on a vacation with some friends and a few strict adults. i ended up doh g a different type of treatment after Paradigm, and i’m over a year clean (which i never was before or directly after, or DURING my stay). Not everything was bad- food was great, experienced were amazing, the amount of care and love from everyone is incredible. all of my therapists were incredible and i will forever be grateful to have met everyone i did there. but if you or your child is concidering Paradigm, remember that many people go back twice, and it’s 50k for 3 months of vacation.

Paradigm Malibu, like all treatment centers, has its ups and downs. I'd like to focus on the positives first. The staff here is beyond exceptional; they truly care for the clients and try their hardest to help. I personally was a client here the staff was the most helpful part of my treatment. I was struggling with depression, anxiety and self-harm, and in my living situation at the time I felt lonely, misunderstood and not supported. The staff here made me feel like I had people that truly cared for me and people that had my best interest at heart for the first time in a long time. I still talk to members of the staff to this day, almost two years later. Also, the nutrition here is beyond exceptional. The chef makes THE BEST meals. They are heavenly and nutritional too. There's pretty much no sugar here except for special occasions, and that's because there are multiple studies linking sugar to depressive-like behavior. The house is beautiful as well and so is the surrounding area. The hikes and going to the beach were my personal favorite activities. However, Paradigm also has its downsides. Because this program is not meant as long-term treatment, getting lasting results from the program is extremely difficult. 30-45 days is not enough to change years of a depressive mindset. I went to this program twice, and the first time I came home feeling ready to take on the world. I felt happy and anxiety-free. Not even one week back, I was cutting myself again. Multiple accidents later, in about 5 months, I ended up back at Paradigm unwillingly due to doctor's orders. This time was a lot harder, because I realized that my time here wouldn't cure my mental issues, and I was less motivated to do the work. However, after 2 and a half months, I was starting to feel better. I wasn't anywhere close to loving myself, but I was starting to accept myself. I ended up going to a therapeutic boarding school for a year afterwards, and boarding school is what really changed me. I am currently going to school, employed, and living with my family happily. Treatment depends on what the adult/teen/child needs, and Paradigm just wasn't enough for the level of mental issues I had. I bet this program has fully treated some people, that just wasn't the place for me. Compared to other forms of treatment, Paradigm is more on the mushy side. The kids aren't necessarily PUSHED to improve, although it is "encouraged". I have had many friends that I went with here fall straight back into their old habits because they didn't take full advantage of their treatment and Paradigm didn't really push them to. Before sending your loved one here, I would recommend evaluating how intense the problem is. If it is severe, I would recommend somewhere like a boarding school or a partial hospitalization program. If it is mediocre, a place like Paradigm could help a lot. A few other notes is that there are no cell phones here but call outs are allowed every night, which luxury most treatment places don't have. Visiting is every Saturday, which again is rare for a treatment center to have. Most centers allow one visit every month or two. While I absolutely loved Paradigm and met some of the most genuinely kind people there I've ever met, the amount/level of treatment personally wasn't enough for me. I really changed and improved when I went to a more intense program.

We had a wonderful experience with our niece at Paradigm Malibu. The staff were very knowledgeable and were able to "break through" barriers that our family thought would never come down. The facility, the food, the activities - were all very nice but it was the quality of the treatment - the therapy - that prompted me to take the time to write this review. Our family is grateful for the work they did and the progress since leaving the program has been amazing. I highly recommend this facility for any family struggling with depression or any other mental health issue.

It has been quite some time since my daughter went through the treatment program at Paradigm Malibu, but I feel I need to let people know just how good they really are. My wife and I admitted our daughter here for the Teen Self Injury treatment program that is provided. She was cutting herself on a daily basis, and it was extremely frightening. There was one incident that really shook us, and we decided to take action. Start to finish, the process of admittance to her graduating from the treatment program was spectacular. My daughter was not viewed as just an object, but rather she was viewed as a person. Not only did the staff treat her as if she was family, but the staff even treated my wife and I like family. The entire staff was extremely friendly and helpful, even taking the time to see to it that our insurance was accepted. Part of the treatment that our daughter received was individual family therapy sessions. These sessions were fantastic. We were able to sit-in on the therapy sessions via phone call, and were given updates and made aware of our daughter's experience and the progress she'd been making. Another part of the treatment that was great for our daughter was the music therapy that was offered to her. She has always been musically inclined, getting her passion for playing guitar from her grandfather. The music therapy sessions helped give her an outlet of expression that she never knew it could be. Throughout the stay, she was educated on why she was harming herself and was taught the necessary tools to positively address the issues she was dealing with. Now, one year later, she is doing so much better. She has not had any incidents since prior to the program. Even her overall persona seems to be in a better place. My wife and I catch her smiling a lot more now, and she has even started a music club at school for her classmates that have their own issues they are dealing with. She is doing this because the music therapy sessions had such a profound, positive effect on her; she wants to see her friends and classmates get to a better place just like she did. We are so thankful for what Paradigm Malibu has done. We can't imagine what things would be like now had we not made the decision to admit our daughter here.

We were promised follow up care for our daughter when she left. Not one person called to check in with our daughter. Not one. Additionally, there was inappropriate interaction between the kids on a daily basis. My daughter was so much worse when she got back. This place is an expensive luxury vacation for already troubled kids.

Great program! Truly helped my teenage son get and stay clean! Really worked with my insurance company to make sure the entire stay was accepted and taken care of!

I had tried way too many treatment programs for my daughter to even begin getting into how awful they all are. Not only was poor treatment a common theme, my insurance was never accepted anywhere. I always had issues no matter where it was. I have a very well-known and reputable insurance company, so you can understand my frustration at this. When I found Paradigm Malibu, they really worked with me and my insurance company to make sure my insurance would be accepted and used throughout my daughter\'s entire stay. They are the only one to have made sure that what they said was truth and my insurance was accepted, in full, with no gaps or stoppages. And did I mention how GREAT the treatment program was for my daughter??? She is in full recovery and doing so well. Paradigm Malibu is the best of the best. Make sure you go to them first so you don\'t waste your time (and money/insurance) on mediocre and subpar treatment.

I\'m a single parent to a recovering addict of opioid addiction. My son\'s drug of choice was OxyContin and he was on a very dangerous downward spiral. That was until we discovered Paradigm Malibu. I made sure to do my research before choosing a facility for him. Paradigm was by far the best choice and I was blown away after calling to talk with them and gain more information. At first I thought my son was just tired because of lack of sleep, but then I realized something else was going on. I\'m still not sure where he was getting his pills, but it doesn\'t matter at this point. What matters is that Paradigm Malibu did so much for him and he\'s really turned his life around. One of the big determining factors that made me choose Paradigm Malibu was that they made sure, before we checked in, that my insurance was going to be accepted. Sure enough, it was fully accepted. That made the decision so much easier. All I can say is that Paradigm Malibu is the right choice for any parent looking for a treatment center for their child.

We are so over the moon with how well our daughter is doing now! Thank you thank you thank you! Paradigm you really are the best! Our daughter is doing so well now and has been talking to us about how she wants to get involved with helping others that are going through and dealing with the same issues she dealt with. We have seen such a big turnaround in her! When she entered the program, she was mean and nasty and rude to everybody, but your staff was able to find a way to connect with her and make such a positive change! My husband and I are overjoyed at the place she is at now and can\'t wait to see where her advocacy takes her. Thank you again so much for everything you did for her!

Best decision we\'ve ever made. This program helped our teen daughter turn her life around. They were compassionate, insightful and very knowledgeable in their field. They were able to communicate with her at her level (which is difficult to do). Now, she smiles (which we haven\'t seen in quite a while). Thank you to Paradigm Malibu and all the amazing people there.

Excellent psychologists, insufficient psychiatric follow up. Beautiful facilities. Most kids stays are extended beyond 30 days ( you will be sold that this is a 30 day program but almost all kids are extended). Follow up residential treatment is needed; don\'t buy the \"intensive therapy and short stay\". Overall good experience but very expensive.

Words are not enough to express how grateful I am for the help our family received at Paradigm Malibu. Our 16 year-old daughter spent 6 weeks at Escondido House in 2014 for depression and self-harm. In 2015, when she was 17, she spent 10 more weeks at Cliffside. Before Paradigm, we were afraid for her safety and mystified as to why she was so miserable. We were desperate to find help. I had researched many places that claimed to offer treatment for her issues, only to find them disappointing, clueless or downright scary. When I finally called Paradigm Malibu, I heaved a sigh of relief when the person I spoke to was intelligent, knowledgeable, empathetic and HELPFUL. Over the course of several days, I had many lengthy phone conversations with Paradigm Malibu about my daughter, their program and whether or not it might be a good fit for her. I never felt rushed or pressured. I truly had the sense that everyone at Paradigm actually wanted to help us. Once we decided to admit her, our daughter most definitely did NOT want to go. Paradigm coached us during that difficult time, helping to make the process as smooth and painless as possible. When she finally began her stay at Escondido House, we were relieved to find that the program was, as we had hoped, stellar. Our daughter quickly settled in. She slowly began to get better. I really can’t say enough about the quality of the therapy and the caliber of the therapists at Paradigm Malibu. Every single person on our daughter’s team was brilliant, compassionate and highly, highly skilled. I am particularly grateful to her primary therapist during her first stay and our family therapist during her second stay. He had an amazing ability to identify, articulate and focus on difficult issues without alienating anyone. Thank you – we love you! Thank you also to many of the other doctors and staff members. Thank you to EVERYONE who was on our daughter’s team - all were spectacular, all were an integral part of our family’s healing process. Paradigm Malibu was not a quick fix for us. We brought our daughter in to be “fixed,” but we realized pretty quickly that her problems had a great deal to do with larger family issues. Fortunately, the therapy at Paradigm focused on the issues underlying her depression as they related to our family as a whole. We began to learn how to communicate with each other. We began to heal. Our daughter improved greatly during her first stay at Paradigm. Unfortunately, we were unable to find a good local therapy team when she returned home. Without sufficient follow up support, the pressures of high school and our unresolved family issues took her to a very bad place again. During her second stay at Paradigm, I think we tried much harder as a family to work through our issues and we also made sure that she had a solid therapy follow up plan in place before her discharge. Since she left Cliffside, we have all continued to use the tools that we learned at Paradigm Malibu to the best of our ability. As a result, although there have been some bumps along the way, both our daughter and our family as a whole are TRULY better. Looking back, it’s hard to believe that things were ever as bad as they were in 2014. Thank you Paradigm. Thank you for giving us our daughter back. Thank you for healing our family.

Official Facility Response
We never want to hear that a family is disappointed with their treatment experience- and we rarely do. If expectations are not met we are eager to work with any family to make things right. In regards to the amount of therapy provided, Paradigm provides individual therapy every day- 7 days a week, group therapy multiple times every day and we have a full time, on site psychiatrist providing individual care to each client. It is also important to note that we have not had an experience where a client has paid $100,000 with no insurance reimbursement. We again remain open and available to discuss this with anyone.
