Meet The Staff

Michael Welch
Chief Executive Officer

Michael has been involved in the field of addiction since 2002. His involvement in both the private and public sector has allowed for a more cohesive treatment process that includes the need for an individuated treatment model, coupled with the necessity of a community-based environment. Michael has intervened and admitted many afflicted people who have through their own desperation managed to pick up the phone and ask for help. Michael was the program director at one of Southern California’s only Gambling Programs where he helped develop treatment models and treated over 150 compulsive gamblers. In conjunction with UCLA, he managed to bring a certain education and awareness to the greater community: that gambling addiction is alive and destroying the lives of our loved one’s. Michael’s travels have brought him to design a system that helps those suffering to reconnect with the world. His belief of human connection being the foundation of the healing process is the core of A New Starts success. His hopes to challenge the stigma and get those involved to look at the global approach that has yielded less than average successes is what drives Michael¹s efforts today.

She began working at A New Start as a Primary Therapist for its Intensive Outpatient Program, creating and implementing individualized treatment plans to address clients’ varying needs. Since then, Shelby has been a cornerstone in the treatment program’s development. She continues to proactively mold the program to keep up with the evolving nature of addiction treatment, while simultaneously maintaining her one-on-one relationships with clients.
